Privacy Policy

Your content belongs to you. This policy explains where it lives, who can access it, and the choices you control.

About this policy

This policy describes SharedNook, an Apple-native app for organizing private and invited-person shared content. SharedNook is provided by Josh Spendlove, an individual developer. Contact: sharednook.support@icloud.com.

Effective date: November 6, 2026.

Your content belongs to you

You retain ownership of the content you create or import. SharedNook does not claim ownership of your Nooks, lists, tasks, notes, events, recipes, or imported images. Add and share only content you have the right to use.

Where Nook content is stored

SharedNook stores application content locally on your device and uses Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit infrastructure for synchronization and sharing. Cloud functionality uses private and shared CloudKit databases. SharedNook does not operate a proprietary backend that receives or stores your Nook content, and the developer does not receive a copy through ordinary storage or synchronization.

Content and metadata processed by the app include Nook names, lists and their items, task details and assignments, notes and imported images, event dates and locations, recipes and source links, timestamps, and sharing information. They support the features you choose to use. Personal appearance and navigation preferences are also stored on-device.

Your Apple Account is the cloud identity boundary. There is no SharedNook account or password. Apple processes information needed to provide its services under its own terms and privacy practices.

Sharing and participants

New Nooks are private. Sharing requires an intentional invitation through Apple’s sharing tools. Shared records reside in the owner’s private CloudKit database and are made available to invited participants through their shared databases.

Invited participants can see shared content and relevant participant or assignment information. Depending on permission, participants can edit or delete content within a Nook. Owners manage sharing and can remove access. Removing access or stopping sharing cannot recall exports, screenshots, or other independent copies someone has already retained.

Copying content to another Nook creates an independent copy. People with access to the destination can see that copy. Later edits or deletion of the original do not change it.

Features that communicate outside Nook storage

Recipe websites: When you import a recipe from a website, your device requests the URL you supplied, including any query parameters, and may follow redirects. The contacted website can receive your IP address and normal request information. SharedNook uses a temporary networking session and does not enable cookie storage for this import. Website operators have their own privacy practices. This request does not upload your existing Nook contents.

Sharing and exports: When you choose a sharing destination or export location, the selected app, recipient, or storage provider receives the information you choose to send. Their handling is outside SharedNook’s control. JSON Nook exports include content and timestamps; treat them as private files.

Apple Calendar: Adding an event to Apple Calendar requests permission to write events and sends the selected event’s title, dates, all-day setting, location, and notes to Calendar. The calendar account you use may synchronize that event through its provider.

Intelligent capture: On supported devices, SharedNook uses Apple’s on-device Foundation Models framework to interpret capture text. It does not send this text to a developer-operated AI service.

Diagnostics, advertising, and tracking

SharedNook does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, third-party analytics SDKs, or a developer-operated behavioral analytics service. Apple may process technical information through operating-system diagnostics, App Store systems, and iCloud. Apple’s settings and policies govern those services.

The app uses Apple’s system logging for synchronization diagnostics. These messages contain fixed operation labels, numeric error codes, retry delays, and partial-error indices. They exclude raw error descriptions, record identifiers, participant information, and Nook content.

When you contact support

If you email support, the developer receives your email address, message, and any attachments you voluntarily send, and uses them to respond, troubleshoot, and handle your request. Email is processed through the support mailbox’s email provider and your email provider.

Please do not send Apple Account passwords, authentication material, full Nook exports, or private content. Use a minimal description and redact screenshots. Support correspondence is kept as reasonably needed to handle the request and related obligations. You may ask for deletion; information may need to be retained where legally required.

The developer cannot retrieve your private CloudKit records simply because you contact support.

Retention, deletion, and independent copies

Your local content remains until removed through the app or otherwise removed from device storage. Cloud content remains in the applicable Apple storage until deleted there or otherwise affected by Apple Account or sharing changes. Device backups and Apple service retention may follow Apple’s policies.

An owner can use Delete Nook to request permanent deletion from the applicable CloudKit storage. A participant uses Leave Nook to stop participating; leaving does not delete the owner’s data. Cloud deletion and access changes can depend on connectivity and successful synchronization.

Deleting the app should not be treated as deletion of all iCloud data. Removing shared access does not delete independent copies, and deleting a Nook does not remove exports you saved elsewhere. Manage exported files separately.

Synchronization is not an independent backup. Export important Nooks and keep the files somewhere you control. Availability depends on your device, Apple Account, connectivity, Apple services, and the app functioning correctly. Recovery of deleted or inaccessible content is not guaranteed.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can keep Nooks private, choose invited participants and permissions, export individual Nooks, delete Nooks you own, and leave shared Nooks. Manage Apple Account and iCloud settings through Apple’s interfaces.

For privacy questions or support-email deletion requests, contact sharednook.support@icloud.com. Do not include Nook contents to identify a request. The developer has no central content database to search or erase on your behalf. This explanation does not limit rights available under applicable law.

General audience and policy changes

SharedNook is a general-purpose organization app, not a service specifically directed to children under 13. It does not operate a child profile or advertising system.

Updates to this policy will appear here with a revised date. Material changes to how the app handles information should also be explained in the app. An updated policy does not itself authorize new data collection.

Reminders and notifications

Visible reminders are optional. You choose which Nooks and task/event modules can remind you, with personal timing defaults and item overrides. These preferences remain on this device, separately scoped to your Apple Account. They do not change another participant’s settings.

SharedNook schedules reminders through Apple’s local notification system after you enable them and respond to the iOS permission prompt. Notification text is generic unless you enable item titles. Private-Nook task reminders include all incomplete due tasks; shared-Nook task reminders cover only tasks assigned to you. Disabling reminders cancels their scheduled requests and does not stop silent CloudKit synchronization.

Changes from other devices update reminders after synchronization. Account or access changes clear affected reminders once learned by this device. Initial account verification may pause reminders, and later reminders need app refresh opportunities. iOS settings, Focus, connectivity, and background execution can affect delivery.
